Though disappointed in Sunday's loss to the Minnesota Vikings, I can easily sit here like the whiny Chicago Bears fan that I am and blame this loss on the fact that Fields got hurt, so our passing game was off, and Herbert is out, so our running game is rusty. Of course, we didn't score more than 13 points. We tried our best. A for effort. Give Eberflus his participation trophy.
At this point, I am just numb to losses. I'm happy we have at least one win this season, and I am holding onto that. I'm just going to ignore any more losses we take this season. We beat the Washington Commanders. We don't have the longest active losing streak in the NFL. By Chicago Bears standards, we're doing alright. I hate that's the standard for us, but as long as the McCaskey family owns the team, we might as well get used to mediocrity. I've just come to terms with it. I'm 24 years old, and I'm letting go of hope because I'm not about to be that guy who has a reason to hope every season until I'm deceased. We are mediocre in the grand scheme of things. That's all. Who am I kidding though? We'll draft Marvin Harrison JR or some big name in this upcoming draft, and I'll be all the way back in. Being from Carolina, it does suck seeing your home team get smoked every week. In the case of the 2023 NFL season, I hope the Carolina Panthers win nothing, and we get the #1 pick in the draft. Ryan Poles will be in a challenging position this upcoming draft because there is good talent at the quarterback position coming into the league next year. I am still on the "Justin Fields is our guy" train, and I will continue to believe so as long as he continues putting up solid numbers. If Fields can look good under Eberflus, imagine what he can do under a compitent coach. If Poles does decide to take a quarterback in the draft, I want to avoid Drake Maye or Caleb Williams coming in and taking Fields' spot in game one of the 2024 season. Thankfully, Williams' draft stock has dropped after losing to Notre Dame, so the decision on what to do with the #1 pick is becoming more and more evident. Of course, I don't want another team to win the NFC North not named the Chicago Bears, but I am happy that the Lions are leading the division instead of the Packers. It'll be a good bit before we see the Packers again. Regardless of how the rest of this season goes, I'm hoping we can finish out with a win over the Packers so that I don't have to hear my entire family and friends give me crap about getting swept the entire offseason. Like, you're not even a Packers fan, you just like giving me crap, so shut up about it.
