Finally! The day has come that Nic Batum and the Charlotte Hornets officially have no ties with one another! Batum has been a member of the Los Angeles Clippers for the last three seasons, but the Hornets have been paying the majority of his contract up until this last season. In Batum's last full season with the Charlotte Hornets (2019-'20), he was paid just under $24 million. That year, he played in just 22 games and averaged 3.6 points per game. The year before ('18-'19), he made $24 million, started in 72 games, averaged 31.4 minutes per game, and averaged less than 10 points per game.
Batum has been the bane of my existence since he came to Charlotte in 2015, and now that this chapter has ended for the Charlotte Hornets, I can finally breathe and move forward with my life. That contract held the Hornets back from being able to make the team competitive, and now that he is gone, I have high expectations for this team. Should the Hornets make the playoffs this year, you best believe I will say they made it because they are no longer paying Nic Batum. Now if we could just get rid of Gordon Hayward's contract somehow, I would be on top of the world. That's another contract the Hornets should have never come up with, but we're not paying Batum anymore, so I'll take what I can get. We just signed LaMelo Ball to a five-year, $260 million deal. We finally have our superstar, and hopefully, paying a guy an average of $52 million a year pays off in the long haul. For now, my fellow Hornets fans, let us rejoice! Batum is off the books! The biggest liability in the history of the NBA is gone!
