Charlotte Resigns Bridges

​Within the last week, the Charlotte Hornets extended Small Forward Miles Bridges for one year and $7.92 million. Bridges did not participate in the 2022-'23 NBA season due to a domestic assault incident, and his suspension continues through the first ten games of the 2023-'24 season.

It was assumed that the Charlotte Hornets organization would build the roster around LaMelo Ball and Miles Bridges. We expected Bridges to sign a massive extension with the Hornets once his rookie contract had expired, but because of the domestic assault incident, that contract never came. 

Bridges and his agent wanted that massive contract, but the Hornets basically told them that they needed to prove that Bridges is still good enough to make a massive amount of money. Being off the court for over a season leaves a lot of doubt. Reasonably so, the Hornets are also likely skeptical about giving someone with a domestic assault charge a massive amount of money because domestic assault is never acceptable. 

I agree with the Hornets' decision to sign Bridges to a one-year contract and hope he takes this next season to prove that he deserves a sizeable extension with the team. He has been a great asset for the Hornets in his first four seasons with the team, and as he develops, I get more excited to see what he can do on the court. 

The Hornets have a good shot at being the best team the organization has seen since returning to Charlotte in 2004. I would like to see the team win a playoff series at some point in my lifetime, and their current roster gives them the best shot, at least that I have seen. If we could get rid of the Hayward contract and invest that cap into some decent role players, and for the love of God, can we get rid of Steve Clifford, who has never been past the first round of the playoffs as a head coach?
