The UNC vs. Duke game is always entertaining to follow afterward because it brings out the most extreme opinions of Carolina Fans, and watching fans go at it is like watching the blue-haired, feminist, most liberal student, and the camo Carhartt, boots, most conservative student in the class argue about today's politics. I would argue that UNC fans are far more passionate than members of our House of Representatives. Half of the UNC fanbase is calling for Hubert Davis's head, while the other half is defending him and would likely die to keep him at UNC after this past weekend's loss to Duke. There is a division in Chapel Hill. Franklin Street is a warzone. Civil War has ensued the Carolina Fanbase.
Half of my fellow Tar Heels fans will like me after reading this, while the other half will tell me that I should never write another blog post again and that I must shut down my website. To the other half, Ok Listen Here isn't going anywhere anytime soon. I believe those calling for Hubert Davis's head are dead wrong and are casual fans that don't know how college athletics works. I'm also an Oklahoma Fan by marriage, so I've already got one coach that has yet to succeed, and the Oklahoma Football Fanbase is divided in the same way with Brent Venables. Despite the lack of success this season, it's not the right time for Carolina to look for another coach. For all college coaches, they should not be fired until after their fifth year. In their fifth year, the roster is 100% compiled of their recruits (minus a few redshirt athletes). The program must consider other options if they fail with their fifth team. The standard at UNC is to compete for a National Championship every year. Anything less is considered a failure. Hubert Davis knows this, hell, he was an inside hire and has been with the program for over a decade. He knows that something needs to change, and if that change doesn't occur by the end of this season, I'm confident there will be significant changes this upcoming offseason. So to those calling for Hubert's head right now, ease up. The man has already led the team to a National Championship, ended Coach K's career, and beat Coach K in his final game in Cameron. So if you're calling for his head now, does last season mean nothing to you? It's his second season as a head coach. He's got a lot to figure out.
