DOWN GOES TEXAS!!!

​It is a beautiful day to be an Oklahoma Sooners fan! I woke up this morning at eight feeling more rested than I have felt in months. I watched as the sun rose over the great Tennessee sky and breathed in that crisp air that the state has felt for the first time this fall. I watched my two Australian Shepherds frolic around the yard as I scrolled through X (Twitter) to see all of us Sooner fans band together, excited for our boys, for Brent Venables, and the entirety of Sooner Nation. 

I haven't been a Sooners fan for very long. This is only my third year following the Sooners religiously, thanks to my wife and her family. In 2021, my wife and I watched Oklahoma seal the deal over Texas from a campground in the woods of North Carolina. Last year, I witnessed the true heartbreak of lifetime Sooner fans as Texas shut out the dismantled Sooners. But this year... this year, I was able to witness perhaps the greatest redemption story college football has ever seen. 

I haven't been around long. I had spent one season as a fan when that snake, Lincoln Riley, held the keys to the team. I watched as Venables began picking up the pieces of a broken team. Yesterday, I watched Venables put the last piece together to create the biggest and baddest Oklahoma team I have followed.  

Venables has done the unthinkable. He took down the Longhorns, who shut out the Sooners last season, and who arguably have the best roster the program has ever seen. Not only did he beat (what could have been) one of the best Texas teams of all time, he has made Oklahoma better than it was when Lincoln Riley was hanging around. The Sooners now sit pretty at #5 in the Nation, USC at #10, and Texas at #9. Who's laughing now? 

I'm very excited to see where this team goes. I won't get too far ahead of myself because we still have the back half of the season left to play and the Big XII Championship, but the Sooners are back in the conversation of College Football Playoffs. 

Last season, I said the Sooners will not be down for long. Championships are the standard. The Oklahoma Athletic Department knows that it is National Titles or bust. Here we are, less than a year from the worst season OU has had since the turn of the season, back in playoff contention. As a Carolina Boy, my heart breaks that the season isn't ending today and the 12-team playoff isn't active yet because if it did, the Carolina Tar Heels would be traveling to Norman to play Oklahoma (which means I could go introduce my entire family to the yummy goodness that is Braums (Not a paid ad)).

This upcoming weekend, the Sooners are taking a very well-deserved break before coming back and hosting the UCF Golden Knights on October 21! It's going to be a long season for the rest of the Big XII!!!
