For years, I have struggled to watch my favorite NFL team on Sundays. My grandfather-in-law was right about me. I'm a freeloader. My parents have Spectrum TV, and my in-laws had Fubo TV before switching to Hulu Live TV. So finding anything I wanted on in-market channels was never an issue. The issue I have with the NFL is that my favorite team, the Chicago Bears, are an out-of-market team and therefore do not show up on any channels on any TV service within the market I am in Each year since I got into watching the NFL on TV, I have never been able to watch the Chicago Bears without purchasing the NFL Sunday Ticket. In college, purchasing the NFL Sunday Ticket was not a big deal because, at the time, you didn't have to buy something like Direct TV or YouTube TV and then add on NFL Sunday Ticket.
I'll be watching College Football and NASCAR on the weekends this Fall. With college football, I can watch almost any game that I want through ESPN and ESPN+, which costs $9.99/mo. Then NASCAR is always on Fox Sports, which I have access to thanks to my parent's access to Spectrum TV. There is no additional package you have to buy to watch Sunday races. To watch every Chicago Bears game this Fall, I'd have to spend $72.99/mo and an additional $350 for the Sunday Ticket. Since the NFL season starts in September, you're asking me to spend over $50/mo for the service! It's just not worth it to me. Luckily, I'm so into NASCAR now that I'm happy to watch a race over an NFL game. I get my fill watching football on Saturdays following Oklahoma, UNC, and Western Carolina. I can understand the value of the NFL Sunday Ticket is worth it for many individuals. But I'm not just an NFL fan. For $128/mo, which is essentially what you would end up spending during the NFL season for out-of-market games, you could buy ESPN+ (9.99), NBA League Pass ($14.99), NHL Center Ice (69.99/yr or $7.77/mo, but most games are on ESPN+), MLB TV ($25/mo), and many more services. This doesn't even consider the games I can watch mooching off my parents and in-laws. So, this Fall, expect less NFL content from this blog. I'll always root for my Bears, and if I can watch a Bears game, I will. My focus is just shifted. Besides, the JTG Daugherty Race Team has become my favorite sports organization, and Ricky Stenhouse is having a really good season. So you can expect more NASCAR content!
