I thought what happened to the Oklahoma Football Team when Lincoln Riley departed for USC and took half our stars with him in 2021 was terrible, but what Jim Schlossnagle has done at Texas A&M is beyond anything I can even fathom as a fan.
For those who don't keep up with College Baseball, Schlossnagle and the Aggies lost the Men's College World Series to the Tennessee Volunteers on Monday night. After the loss, a reporter asked Schlossnagle what his future looked like at Texas A&M because rumors had been circulating that he would take off because the Texas job had opened up. Schlossnagle then proceeded to call the reporter selfish for asking such a question and stated, "I took the job at Texas A&M to never take another job again... I gave up a big part of my life to come to take this job, and I've poured every ounce of my soul into this job, and I've given this job every single ounce I could possibly give it.. Write that." He then got up from the press conference and walked out of the room, taking no more questions. If I were a Texas A&M fan, I would see this interview and be very excited about the future of Aggie Baseball. You just finished as the runner-up in the MCWS, you have a ton of returning talent, and all the signs point to TAMU being able to make a MCWS appearance again in 2025. I want to remind you that this was on Monday night after the Aggies lost the National Title by one point. By Tuesday Night, Texas social media sites flooded everyone's timelines with announcements about their new baseball head coach. Can you guess who? If you guessed Jim Schlossnagle, you'd be correct. Like I said in the first paragraph, I thought Lincoln Riley was a douche for leaving Oklahoma the way he did, but this is on an entirely different level. Schlossnagle left Texas A&M for an IN-STATE, IN-CONFERENCE team. The Longhorns and Aggies have a storied rivalry that has been diluted from being in separate conferences for a while, but now that Texas is going to the SEC, this rivalry has been renewed. So that my audience members can relate to this situation, imagine Roy Williams leaving UNC to coach at Duke or Bob Stoops leaving Oklahoma to coach at Texas. That's how severe this move is. Schlossnagle is leaving a team that he took to two College World Series, and with him, you would imagine many of his players would follow him two hours to the west. Texas A&M hasn't won a College World Series, and this was the first time they finished runner-up. They aren't a dominating force in college baseball, but they're always in the mix somehow. TAMU is an SEC school with a lot of money coming from boosters, so next year, the team will take a few steps back, but it won't be long before they're back on track and competing for titles once again.
