Jordan Finally Sells the Hornets

Michael Jordan has finally sold the Charlotte Hornets! It has been a long time coming, and I am so excited that some change is finally happening within the organization.

I have been a fan of Charlotte Basketball since the Charlotte Bobcats were established in 2004. I grew up around the team, and I know nothing other than mediocrity. Michael Jordan, while the greatest basketball player of all time, did not hold his own NBA team to the same standard he held himself to as a player. If somebody had told you back in 1993 that Michael Jordan wood on the most mediocre basketball team in the NBA, people might have called you crazy. Unfortunately, that is what happened.

The best thing to ever come through the organization is LaMelo Ball and Kemba Walker, and the Hornets do not even have a playoff series win to show for it. Since NBA basketball returned to Charlotte, North Carolina in 2004, the team has had just as many playoff appearances as they have had owners now, with Jordan selling the team.

The new ownership group of the Hornets is led by Gabe Plotkin, the founder and CIO of Melvin Capitol, and Rick Schnall, a minority owner of the Atlanta Hawks and the Co-President of Clayton, Dubilier, and Rice Private Equity Firm.

Only time will tell, but hopefully, the days of overpaying mediocre and past-their-prime players are over, we will begin hiring coaches and staff that can develop players, and North Carolina will become a destination for pro basketball, not just college.

Overall, I’m so excited to see some change finally happening within the organization. It has been so painful seeing this team be so mediocre—hopefully, the days of being the laughingstock of the NBA or over.
