I’ve never really been a Joey Logano fan, but I never truly understood why people despised him so much until after the Richmond race. Yesterday, I wrote about how I believed Austin Dillon’s win at the Cookout 400 was wrong, but I kinda understood that he was in a position where he had to do something bold to elevate himself and Richard Childress Racing. What I cannot understand is Logano’s actions heading down pit lane.
If you haven’t seen the video, check it out on X. You can view it on my profile, @OKLHDawson. For those who don’t have X, I’ll explain. After being spun out by Austin Dillon on the final lap of Sunday’s race, Logano headed down pit lane faster than usual. When he approached Austin Dillon’s family and crew members, he sped up a little as if he were going to plow through them before coming to a stop and revving up his engine. NASCAR drivers are known to be hotheads, but there is a line that you do not cross. Acting like you are going to plow through someone’s family, including a four-year-old and a one-year-old, is not okay. Acting like you’re going to plow through anyone is not okay. While I don’t like how Dillon won the race and I think he should face some hefty fines and point deductions, Logano’s actions were far more egregious. Logano should be suspended for a few races and receive an even bigger fine. Had something gone horribly wrong on pit lane, he could be facing more than just fines from NASCAR; he could be facing felony charges.
