This Saturday marks an exciting event for the Ok Listen Here Dynasty Fantasy Football League - our fourth annual Rookie Draft. Breaking from tradition, we’ve decided to move the draft up from the weekend after the pre-season concluded.
As the proud owner of three first-round picks (Picks #5, #7, and #10), a second-round pick (Pick #14), and a third-round pick (Pick #21), I’m in a unique position this year. With each team gaining three additional roster spots and three existing spots open, I’m looking forward to retaining a lot of young talent beyond the draft. Initially, I held pick #3. However, considering the top-5 players on my big board, I felt confident with any of them. Thus, I traded back, securing the #5 and #14 picks in this year’s draft, plus a second-round pick in 2025. The top three players - Caleb Williams, Marvin Harrison Jr., and Malik Nabers - are expected to go 1-2-3. While I don’t anticipate any of them being available at pick #5, I would be thrilled to select any of them if they’re there. Rome Odunze, my #4 pick, and Caleb Williams promise to be an exciting duo for years to come. With D’Andre Swift already in my lineup, adding another Bear would be a welcome move. The fifth spot on my big board is a toss-up between Brock Bowers and Xavier Worthy. A tight end that can consistently produce fantasy points is a game-changer, and they are a rare breed. There are only a handful of players, like Travis Kelce, who you can count on for consistent productivity throughout the season. Xavier Worthy’s stock rose after being drafted by the Kansas City Chiefs. The fastest WR in NFL Combine history, paired with one of the greatest quarterbacks of this NFL era, is bound to make waves. Although Harrison Jr., Nabers, and Odunze are the clear-cut Top-3 receivers in this year’s draft, Worthy is a close contender. When we reach pick #7, the strategy becomes more flexible, depending on how the first six picks unfold. At this point, I expect Williams, Harrison Jr, Nabers, Odunze, Bowers, and Worthy to be off the board. If any of these players are still available at pick #7, they’re my choice. I’m considering a receiver, running back, or quarterback for this pick, with Brian Thomas, Jonathon Brooks, and Jaden Daniels as my top choices. Pick #10 is where things get interesting. If any of the nine players I’ve mentioned so far are available, it’s an easy decision. Otherwise, Ladd McConkey, Xavier Lagette, and Keon Coleman are all strong contenders to join the Memphis Dixies with the #10 pick. For picks #14 and #21, I’m looking for players who may not make an immediate impact but have the potential to develop into key players. I have a full 30-man big board prepared, so I’m confident I’ll be pleased with my selections. Drake Maye, Ja’Lynn Polk, and Will Shipley are among the players I’m considering for these picks. Last season, the Memphis Dixies finished at the bottom of both the regular season standings and the post-season losers bracket. However, after a full rebuild and key additions like Jordan Love, Travis Etienne, Derrick Henry, Justin Jefferson, Amon-Ra St. Brown, and D’Andre Smith, the Memphis Dixies are poised for a deep run in this year’s playoffs. Here’s to a successful draft and an exciting season ahead!
