Oklahoma State Gets Their Fourth Win in 18 Tries Against Oklahoma Under Mike Gundy!!!

Oklahoma’s loss against Oklahoma State this past weekend was abysmal. Perhaps it was the pressure of the moment, being that it was the last Bedlam game for a long time, or maybe the team is still grieving the loss we had last week in Kansas. I don’t know what it was, but one thing that I can say for sure is that the offense struggled to close out drives. 

When you look at the stats, it looks like our players individually had phenomenal games. As we all know, statistics do not always tell the whole story. 

From somebody who has been a part of the Oklahoma fan base for only three seasons, I am happy that we no longer have to play Oklahoma State, not because they are good but because, in my opinion, the Bedlam series was never much of a rivalry. Over 118 games, Oklahoma State has only won 20, and since the turn of the century, the series is 14–6 in favor of Oklahoma. Between 1977 and 1994, Oklahoma was not beaten by Oklahoma State. 

I think Mike Gundy not wanting to play Oklahoma moving forward is a terrible idea for the Oklahoma State football program because it is not necessarily a bad thing for your rival to be one of the top football programs in the history of college football. This whole argument that Oklahoma is giving up on the rivalry because they are moving to the SEC is crap because several rivalries are still very successful, even though both teams are in different conferences. For example, South Carolina versus Clemson, Florida versus Florida State, Pittsburgh versus West Virginia, Texas versus Texas A&M, and the list goes on. I guess I understand, to an extent, needing an excuse not to play Oklahoma every year, and this is just your excuse for it, but good Lord, it is just loser talk. 

Stillwater is a fitting name for the town that the Oklahoma State Cowboys reside in. It is an excellent description of this football program. The team is not going anywhere. They will be consistently average with a few decent sparks, and they will continue to be stagnant, even though they will no longer be playing Oklahoma. 

I am happy for Mike Gundy and the Oklahoma State Cowboys. Gundy finally got his fourth win as a coach against Oklahoma in 18 games. He and the entire Oklahoma State fan base can all look back and say, “We beat you guys the last time we played, so we are better.” Personally, I will give you the last game of the over 100-year rivalry as long as we get to keep our seven Heisman winners, seven national championships, 50 conference championships, and the fifth-best all-time record in college football. But y’all have fun with your one win.
