The Western Carolina Men's Basketball Team just robbed Notre Dame! The Western Carolina Catamounts traveled up to South Bend to take on the Fightin' Irish in what was supposed to be a cupcake game for Notre Dame, took their money, and dipped out! This season marks the beginning of Western Carolina's Justin Gray's third season as the head coach for the Catamounts. Last year, Gray led the Catamounts to their sixth winning season since the turn of the century. Heading into this season, Western's Senior Guard Vonterius Woolbright was voted the Southern Conference Pre-Season Player of the Year, and Junior Guard Russell Jones Jr., Senior Guard Tre Jackson, and Vonterius Woolbright were voted on the Pre-season All-Southern Conference Team. Western was also voted as the #2 team in the conference by the media.
Gray may be building something special in Cullowhee, North Carolina. While there is still a long season ahead for the Catamounts, we may see the Catamounts in the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 1996.
