The Chicago Bears have just concluded their best season since they last visited the Super Bowl in 2006. Mitch Trubisky is in his second year playing quarterback for the Chicago Bears, and Matt Nagy is in his first year as the team's head coach. Heading into the 2019 Wildcard Round of the NFL Playoffs, the Bears look like they can make their first playoff run in a long time. It was unprobable with a first-year head coach and a second-year quarterback, but the talk of a visit to the Super Bowl was in circulation. The 2019 playoffs would end abruptly for the Chicago Bears as the Philadelphia Eagles would hold the Bears to just 15 points, and the Chicago Bears would line up for a game-winning field goal which would end up being known as the "double-doink." A phrase that continues to send Bears' fans into a psychotic breakdown to this day.
I have not had a dog in the fight in the playoffs for a few years, but the 49ers were my team for a while since they are Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers' kryptonite when it comes to the playoffs. Naturally, if the Chicago Bears are not in the playoffs and the 49ers are, that's who I go for. Well, the Philadelphia Eagles are heading back to the Super Bowl after defeating the San Francisco 49ers. So, the thought of the Eagles terrorizes me as a Bears fan, and they just knocked out my "playoff team," if you will. But here is the predicament I am in. The Eagles are led by the former Oklahoma Sooner, Jalen Hurts. It also gets iffy because Alabama has a claim to Jalen Hurts, and I don't much care for Alabama. But, as I'm writing this, Hurts will have to play either the former LSU Tiger, Joe Burrow, who knocked Oklahoma out of the 2019 College Football Playoffs, or Patrick Mahomes, whose brother and wife are the most obnoxious individuals that make all NFL fans cringe on a weekly basis. So it's a lose, lose, lose situation for me here. I don't want to see the Eagles win another Super Bowl. I don't want to see a former LSU Tiger win a Super Bowl, especially one that knocked Oklahoma out of the playoffs. And I don't want to see Patrick Mahomes win another Super Bowl. So that's the predicament I am in. I am envious of those that are just a fan of an NFL team or just a fan of a College team because they don't have to deal with this. I mean, I guess I could go for Mahomes, but the thought of Jackson Mahomes twerking on TikTok for the next year and being praised for it because his brother is Patrick Mahomes is something I cannot get behind. That all being said, I'm pulling for Jalen Hurts. In my memory, I'll remember this as a former Sooner won the Super Bowl. Not the Philadelphia Eagles. It's a good thing I have an emotional support dog because I'm going through it.
