The Tar Heels Fall To Virginia... Again...

​The amount of streaming services you must sign up for to watch your favorite college football team play every week is truly getting out of hand. I have made every effort and purchased almost every streaming service I could think of to watch every Carolina football game this season, and yet, somehow, my efforts were not enough this weekend. 

I recently purchased Sling TV and added the sports package, which includes the ACC Network. ESPN and ESPN+ are a given. Finally, I mooch off my family to get Spectrum Live TV, which does have the CW, but not when you’re not using home Wi-Fi. I have no way of proving this, but this is just damn near unconstitutional. I should be able to watch whatever college football team I want on Saturdays if I single-handedly pay over $100 monthly for streaming services. I did not even know the CW streamed sports until this weekend. Is it that difficult to stream every game for one team on one network? Evidently so. 

That is enough of my ranting. Just know this article was written by somebody unable to watch the Carolina versus Virginia game this past weekend.

This loss does not come as much of a surprise to me. Carolina is notorious for losing some random game against a team like Virginia or Georgia Tech, especially when they’re highly ranked. It has almost become the standard. 

I am by no means calling for Mack Brown’s head because the Carolina football team is in one of the best positions that the program has ever been in since his return, but I hate that the standard is finishing #15-#20 and playing in a decent bowl game that does not mean that much now that players are opting out. At some point, I want to see us winning conference titles and playing in New Year’s Six Bowl games. Unfortunately, that has not happened for us, and it looks like it will not happen for us this year. 

Compared to five years ago, I am very pleased with where the Tar Heels are, but we have plateaued, and with Drake Maye leaving for the NFL, it feels like this was the last season for us to make some real noise. This is probably me overreacting and being super nervous for the future, but losing to these cupcake teams does not give me much hope.

Mac Brown has done a fine job with this football program, but it is time for us to either get off this plateau or make some significant changes. I don’t know what that looks like, but I want to see Carolina, at the very least, competing for conference titles every year.
