It comes as absolutely no surprise to me that the Tar Heels have lost the previous two games against Virginia and Georgia Tech. I have preached all season that teams that look like they should be challenging to handle on paper are not the ones I am worried about. It is the Virginias and the Georgia Techs of the world that Carolina cannot get past.
I have prepared myself for this because now that they have these two losses, the rest of the season will spiral downward. Carolina is good at getting to a hot start, losing to a cupcake team, and eventually looking like your average Joe run-of-the-mill football team. The Tar Heels are notorious for it. I held onto hope there for a minute. One loss is not all that bad, but two defeats from two teams that we should have obliterated is just downright abysmal. I am at a complete loss. I wish that I had solutions. I just don’t know what the answer would be. We have the roster to be a top-10 team. We have the coaching to be a top-10 team. We have everything in place to finish the season as a top-10 team. If somebody could, please enlighten me on what the issue is. Looking ahead at the rest of the season, I’m unsure what to make of it. We should beat Campbell this weekend, and if we don’t, we need to fire everybody. Looking beyond Campbell at Duke, Clemson, and North Carolina State. It would not surprise me if we lost the season's last three games. We are no longer competing for a conference title. We are no longer in the running for the college football playoffs. At this point of the season, players are more than likely concerned about staying healthy for the future. On the flip side, let me try to be slightly positive here. Losses are not always the worst thing to happen to a football team. Yes, we are no longer in the running for a conference title, and we for sure are no longer in the running for the college football playoffs, but a good football team can learn from their mistakes. Perhaps Coach Brown can look at the film and figure out what exactly went wrong the last two games and use that to go out in dominating fashion this season. I hope for the best for our beloved Tar Heels. It just sucks having to go through this every season. We have all this upside, and we get hot, and then we face an opponent that, for whatever reason, has our number. Sadly, there will not be much to show for this season. This roster has so much potential, and I had even talked myself into the fact that we can make the college football playoffs. Maybe one year we will get a title. Just not this year. Roll Heels Forever.
