Alright, so one thing about writing about sports is that now and then (actually, pretty much after every take I have), I have to admit that I... was wrong. The last time Carolina lost to Duke, I defended coach Hubert Davis because I believed the fanbase was acting too early calling for him to be fired. Well, I'm here today to say that he has to go unless the Tar Heels make the tournament by some miracle. Even still, it should still be a possibility. In Roy's entire time at Carolina, he missed two tournaments, but we can cut him some slack because he won two National Titles before doing so and only had one season with more than ten losses. Coach Smith did no wrong in his time at Carolina. There were a few iffy seasons in the beginning, but the tournament looked a lot different than it looks today.
At the end of this year, several players will graduate, and several young bucks are likely to transfer out. As a result, the team will look totally different in the 2023-2024 season. So if we're going to reset, now is the time to do it. Getting swept by Duke and missing the tournament should result in a Carolina Coach getting fired because they have not maintained the standard, and I don't think accomplishing those two things should be that difficult with a program like Carolina. That may be a hot take, but if you disagree, let me know.
