It's that time of year when football season is winding down, and my attention switches back to basketball. The Carolina/Duke game was the first basketball game I have watched all the way through this season. Needless to say, I was severely disappointed. The other day I stated that the Tar Heels needed to sit down and rewatch the Duke game so that they knew what NOT to do in future games. I'm going to take this a step further and say they need to take a look at a few NBA games so they can see what to do in the future.
Tonight's game against Wake Forest wasn't as ugly as the game against Duke this past weekend, but it was still pretty damn ugly. After the game, I switched to the Pheonix Suns/Brooklyn Nets game to watch how Cameron Johnson was doing, and I felt like I was watching an entirely different sport. Players are consistently moving around, looking for the open man, taking good shots, and playing like they are not at some community park playing pickup. So I'll reiterate, I felt like I was watching an entirely different sport. The game was clean, and I felt like I was watching art. Myself, along with every other UNC fan, is tired of watching the Heels just go for it. This freelance play might work against teams like Gardner-Webb, but not against ACC opponents and especially not against anybody in the tournament, assuming we even make it. We have three days to prepare against Clemson and to be honest, I'm not optimistic about our chances back in the Dean Dome if we keep playing like this. Clemson is 10-3 in the conference. They are not to be slept on. This isn't a Clemson team that will barely break .500 this year. With seven games left in the season and the ACC tournament, there is still plenty of time for Hubert Davis to address and fix the issues plaguing the Heels. They just have to win a few more and make it to the tournament while simultaneously fixing these issues. It'll be an interesting month for sure.
