Why is Matt Nagy Trending?

​I was scrolling through Twitter today, as I usually do most nights, and saw that Matt Nagy was trending. So, of course, as a Chicago Bears fan seeing his name on Twitter piqued my curiosity. After about two seconds of digging, I figured out all the uproar was over what Clay Harbor (@ClayHarbs82) Tweeted. He Tweeted, "I was talking to an ex-Bears player last week, and he said Matt Nagy was a good coach, but Mitch couldn't run his system. Said Nagy didn't want Mitch, but his hands were tied."

Generally speaking, I get over things by the next season in sports. For example, I was over the Matt Nagy era in Chicago until I saw this Tweet. I liked Mitch, especially since he played at Carolina. I was pleased when Chicago picked him over Deshaun Watson. I knew it wasn't the safest move, but any UNC player going to Chicago made my heart happy. 

But here is what annoys me about this take on Nagy is that Nagy didn't want Mitch, which is okay. Everyone is entitled to their own thoughts and feelings. However, after seeing what Mitch and Nagy accomplished in Chicago back in 2018, their first season together, it is evident that they could work together. Therefore, this statement made by the ex-Bears player is completely stupid. 

I'll level with the ex-Bears player and say Mitch couldn't play in Matt Nagy's system, but Andy Dalton, Nick Foles, and Justin Fields couldn't do it either. The bottom line is that Nagy has a fantastic pre-Chicago resume, largely because of his time in Kansas City. He was handed a generational talent that is Patrick Mahomes and worked under Andy Reid his entire career. 

Nagy is a great coordinator, but based on his head coaching career, he should likely stay in a coordinator position under Andy Reid where he can focus on his offense and not an entire team. I know there are talks about him becoming a head coach somewhere else, but as a coordinator he's got nothing left to prove. He's awesome at it! I may be biting my foot here in a few years if he finds success as a head coach, but being Andy Reid's OC with what may be one of the best Quarterbacks in the history of the league, isn't a bad gig.
