Oklahoma enters the 2024 season ranked #1 in the nation after going 61-1 in 2023. It's no secret that Patty Gasso is coming into this season looking to make history and win her fourth consecutive National Title. However, can the Sooners maintain with rivals like #5 Texas and #12 Oklahoma State nipping at the heels and hungry to beat this historical team?
The Sooners are currently on a 53-game winning streak and will look to extend that streak to 54 on February 8 at the Puerto Vallarta College Challenge at 10:30 AM (Central) against Utah Valley. It will be nearly a month before the Sooners return to Norman to play in front of the Sooner Faithful when they host Miami (OH), Liberty, and Louisiana. This weekend also marks the opening for the new Loves Field!
According to SoonersSports.com, The Sooners will play 16 schools that reached the 2023 NCAA Tournament, including six Super Regional participants and two Women's College World Series qualifiers. Fifteen of Oklahoma's contests are against opponents ranked in both final 2023 national polls, with an additional seven games featuring opponents who received votes in both final polls.
Oklahoma's final Big XII opener will begin with a three game series against Iowa State starting on March 8. Sooners fans across social media have expressed their concerns about the Big XII intentionally making bad calls like we allegedly saw happen to the football team this season. Regardless, if this Oklahoma team has to play against the other team and the umpires, Gasso has put together a team that has the ability to overcome the challenges that they will face this season.
Oklahoma is the standard when it comes to college softball, and I fully expect to see the Sooners back in the National Championship game to conclude the season. As we saw last year, nobody is beating Oklahoma in a best of three series. Prepare, OU fans. The Oklahoma Dominance is here to stay.
