Meeting Miss Dixie

Mine and Sydney's wedding has passed. We've gone on our honeymoon. Now we are back home in Cullowhee, and to start the 2023 year, we brought home a new puppy! We had decided to buy another Australian shepherd in late November, weeks before the madness of our wedding and honeymoon kicked in. At the time, bringing home our new puppy seemed so far away, but now she has been here for a full 24 hours.

When Sydney and I got Memphis, we were heading into the summer after I graduated college, and Sydney was a rising sophomore. She lived near Fayetteville, NC, while I lived in Charlotte, NC. So about three hours away from one another. Since Sydney was the one that planned out getting Memphis, she kept her as a puppy while we lived apart.

Miss Dixie is the first puppy that I have had, and I am finding out that it takes a LOT to have a puppy. Sydney tried to tell me, and it's not that I didn't believe her. But, I did not know the extent of work it would take.

We kind of expected it, but Dixie is the little hell-raiser of our two dogs. She makes Memphis look like a little angel. She is nippy and whiney and does not like to go outside. The second I put her down to go potty, she begs to be picked up. I know it sounds like I'm complaining, but it's honestly the cutest thing.

Sydney has told me a few times that though Dixie is a mess, it's been nice to have another parent present. Memphis has taken kindly to Dixie and constantly wants to be around her. This is one of the biggest areas where having two parents has proven beneficial. So while Sydney is teaching Dixie to sit, or not to bite, I can be with Memphis entertaining her.

Watching Memphis and Dixie play all day long makes Sydney and me happy because that's a major reason we decided to get another puppy. Memphis has been a lot more active and doesn't spend her hours in the apartment lounging about. She's not even two years old and needs constant mental stimulation. Dixie was the perfect solution.

All in all, we are excited to have another puppy roaming around, even if she is a little hell-raiser. Puppies are a lot of work, but they are so much fun. If you're looking to get an Aussie puppy, be prepared to be occupied all day long.
