The Puzzle That Can't Come Together

​At this point, I really do not care if the Bears win or lose because, like every year, there's always next season to look forward to. We have a lot to look forward to, like every year. We will be getting a new coach. We have some very high draft picks. We have a fantastic CEO. And in my opinion, I think we have a good general manager. More on that later. 

There is still plenty of season left to go, but my expectations are so low. Eberflus is on his way out, and quite honestly, if he has checked out already, it would not surprise me. Tyson Bagent was announced to be the starting quarterback against the Saints. Nobody is really sure if Justin Fields is the guy or not, and the McCaskey Family still owns the team.

I think the McCaskey family still owning the team is the biggest issue. Of all the teams in the NFL, I genuinely think the Chicago Bears ownership cares the least about winning as long as they are making a dollar. They do not care for the team's record. They look at the balance sheets. If it is positive, it is a good year for them. Quite honestly, I do not blame them because football is nothing more than a money-making venture for this family. I just wish we had an owner who actually cared about their team's reputation and didn't piggyback off of the team's historical significance.

I personally believe that Ryan Poles is a good general manager. I know a lot of fans are probably going to give me a lot of heat for that take, but just hear me out. Looking at the situation that he stepped into. I want you to take a look at all of the moves that he has made since taking on the role of the Chicago Bears general manager. I do not see a deal that he has made that didn't make logical sense except for maybe keeping Eberflus around for this long. 

The rumor mill has been full speed ahead this last week. It is clear that Eberflus is on the way out, and the Bears will be looking to change up their head coach for the 2024 season. It is rumored that Lincoln Riley has interviewed for the job.

If the Chicago Bears higher Lincoln, Riley, this is going to put me in, potentially, the worst bind that I have ever been in in my life. I married into the Oklahoma fan base and, therefore, have a natural hatred for Lincoln Riley.

For those living under a rock, essentially what happened was Lincoln Riley left Oklahoma for the US C job and took about 50% of the players with him, leaving Oklahoma in a terrible position. Hindsight 20/20, thank God Lincoln Riley left because he absolutely sucks, as we have seen this season. Regardless, it's still put Oklahoma in a very tough situation.

Back to the point. I'm unsure if my love for the Chicago Bears exceeds my hatred for Lincoln Riley. If the Bears do bring on Lincoln Riley, I don't know what I am going to do. It is going to suck if the Bears are successful under Lincoln Riley. But then again, I would love for the Bears to be successful.

I want to bring up the point that Lincoln Riley has not been successful anywhere he has gone. He is only as good as the players on the field. He cannot develop a team. He cannot build team chemistry. He for damn sure cannot put together a solid defense. I just do not believe Lincoln Riley could step into an NFL role and be successful unless the roster was already stacked. Even still, give a team under Riley four years for players to filter in and out, and that team would be back to mediocre at best. Give me Harbaugh.

We still have a lot of season left to play, and maybe things will change. I will stay hopeful but keep my expectations super low, as usual. I am looking forward to the off-season to see what this organization does to improve the team or, at the very least, move horizontally.
